Eduloom
Eduloom was the winner in NASSCOM's DESIGN4INDIA Design Awards 2018 in the immersive catergory.
The Why
Eduloom is the project seeded by New Media Designer Sagar Sharma.
Comprehension in education is the biggest problem in the
education world. Kids mug up things but could’t understand the
concepts. So we wanted to make something for kids to make the
understanding of core concepts easier.
The How
To make something for kids based on Bloom’s taxanomy and Piaget theory of learning, which will help and allow kids to learn and understand the concepts beyond their textbooks. To help them to remember and then understand the particular concept.
The What
To develop a mixed reality application which will allow kids to think and tomake them understand the concepts what they are learning in schools as well as in home beyond their textbooks.
My role in the project
I worked with Sagar as a technical guide to develop the mixed reality application. The application required amalgamation of various immersive media such as Augmented Reality through image targets, Virtual Reality and Leap Motion.
In the initial iterations we explored how Augmented Reality through image based targets can empower comprehension among students. We tested different possibilities in terms of locations, image targets and the application flow.
In the later iterations we explored how Leap Motion and VR can build on these experiences.
Impact and Feasibility
The biggest problem in the education, kids mug up things but they dont understand the core concepts of what and why they are learning. So they dont understand the concepts for rest of their lives and books have their own limitations like space limitations, fixed contents and books can’t fully justify the absract concepts to kids for example mathmatics is completly abstract, numbers doesn’t exist so thats why kids face problem in mathematics.
Bloom's Taxonomy
In the prototype we tried to build something which takes the blooms taxanomy as the base to teach kids properly and make them understand the concept and enhance their learning experience.
In the following prototype we tried to teach kids about
continents. We have given them a map of the world
and some cutouts of the continents which will work
as puzzle cutouts. As the kid will arrange them that
continent will appear in front of them in real time.
this will help them to understand about the continents.
We color coded the markers so the kid will connect to
the order and solve it.
