Module 3: Designing a Theatrical XR Environment for a Museum Experience

Concept

Have you ever been stuck with a life changing decision where you just can't decide either to 'go for it' or to 'let it go'?

Experiencing mixed feelings and conflicting thoughts about something or someone is referred to as ambivalence. It ranges from simple indecision, such as choosing between attending a party or staying in, to more complex scenarios like love-hate relationships, where you simultaneously love and, at times, hate the same person. Ambivalence can often make it feel like 'the grass is always greener on the other side.'

The museum exhibit captures the mental landscape of an ambivalent person.

The project embraces metaphor and abstraction to increase its relatability to a wider audience. It envisions a world where 7 different herds of sheep roam around a vast mountain. Here the mountain is a methaphor for a difficult decision, something so huge that it feels like a mountain. Each sheep represent a thought and their collection in form of herds represents various mental states. Just like humans tend to act on their most recent and prominent thoughts, sheep, being known for their herd mentality, can shape-shift and join different herds as thoughts evolve and change.

Intent

The primary goal is to shift the perspective from 'the grass is greener on the other side' to 'the grass is greener where one nurtures it.'
